Amazon's Echo Dot and WiFi Connection

Hi everyone I bought one of Amazons Echo Dots last week. A very sweet little thing. Only issue with it is it took 4 HOURS to connect to my router after I downloaded the app for it and followed the instructions to connect to my router. The router I have is a BT Home Hub 6 and am connected to their Infinity 1 Broadband Service. I have my laptop, printer and phone connected to the WiFi and set top box on an ethernet cable plugged into the back of the router. I have reported this issue to Amazon but I would like your thoughts as to why it took so long. By the way I have somehow got it working. Thanks.
