Take administrative ownership of the corrupted system file. To do this, at an elevated command prompt, copy and then paste (or type) the following command, and then press ENTER: takeown /f Path_And_File_Name Note The Path_And_File_Name placeholder represents the path and the file name of the corrupted file.

Click File > Open. Click the location and folder that contains the corrupted workbook. In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook. Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.

Problems with file corruption typically happen when the file is stored on a USB device that is disconnected while the device is open in Windows. You can prevent damaging files by using the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows taskbar. If you don't see the icon, click the up-arrow in the notification area to show hidden icons.

Recently i have noted that every Microsoft file i create gets corrupted, from Word to Excel. Even pictures that i screenshot get corrupted, with a red cross (x) on each file.
