What's the future of Win32 and UWP?
For those who aren't familiar, Win32 applications are your traditional desktop programs. They are typically installed via a downloaded installer, can be run directly from their exe files and are located in the Program Files folder of every Windows computer. UWPs, on the other hand, are essentially glorified mobile apps as part of Microsoft's last-ditch effort to gain developer support for Windows Phone. They can only be distributed via the Windows Store, designed from the ground up to be mouse-unfriendly, and use a completely different application architecture than traditional programs. UWPs cannot be launched directly from their exe files; their program files are hidden away in special directories that regular users are not allowed to access. The idea behind UWP was to create an application that could be programmed once and run on all Windows devices, both phone and desktop. This way, it would be easier to create software for Windows Phone, thus incentivizing developers to write more mobile apps. However, with the demise of Windows Phone and the failure of Windows 8, it doesn't seem that UWPs need to exist anymore. Yet, despite this, Microsoft is throwing more and more resources into UWP. They've converted all of their first party-software to the UWP platform, made it the only kind of software that can run on Windows VR/AR/MR headsets, and stopped adding new features to Win32 entirely. Where is Microsoft going with this? Does Microsoft plan to eventually deprecate Win32? Microsoft hasn't made their goals or intentions very clear, and it's causing no small amount of concern in the developer community. The fact that they have no public plans to deprecate Win32 at the moment is little comfort- everything Microsoft has done so far has indicated otherwise.

OneDrive vs Backup
As I am not completely computer savvy, Is backup necessary if you use OneDrive? Does OneDrive need backup? I had never done a backup in my life and just recently started using OneDrive. I would greatly appreciate any help and how to on this. Thanks

Covid-19 and technology
How do you take advantage of network and computer technology to stay productive amid Covid-19 pandemic. How Microsoft technology empowers you? Microsoft Azure? IoT? Office 365? The "New Normal" powered by technology is gaining popularity to replace the old normal. Exam paper -> File upload. Ink signature -> Digital signature. Work attendance -> Work from home using network. Approval letter -> Just click approval button on screen. Normal wedding -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB46IgdaFOQ&feature=youtu.be What else? Would you like to share your unique story? PS: Video call is not a major need for my family as face-to-face (offline) gathering is more cheerful, more emotional, more happy. But I have to patiently guide my mom to make a video call.

Windows 10 Green Screen oopsie 🤔
When I powered-up my computer this morning I received a green screen error message (as my family member advised). Message indicated 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info'. At this point the OS automatically did a restart and my system returned to normal. This is the first time I have encountered a green screen. As I am a curious person, I would like to know what was the conflict? Really good to know about such things. Views? Many thanks, keep well.

My friend needs help.
Hello there Windows Community! My friend can not log in to Windows 10, as it just says ''Something Happened and your PIN is not available'' He can not even do a computer reset as it just failed, he can not also access safe mode, he can not do anything! All of this happened because he tried to go into safe mode! He can not even reset the PC, he is just locked. Any ideas of fixing this without resetting the PC from an external media drive? He is extremely angry at Windows right now, and I do not even know how to help, as I just can not when he can not even access safe mode! All of this kind of sounds to me as a broken or corrupted Windows file or registry but I do not know. All help is appreciated!

Is it just me? No Cookies, but we got EMOJIS! Input my Soul
With all the cookies the systems use nowadays, you would think that I would not have to restart at the very beginning of the community feed, after viewing every post! 3 pages in and you give up on learning, which I'm beginning to believe is Microsofts goal. The "learning" part, not "giving up", never do that! Seriously, if you try to do any real computing, not (youtube and facebook surfing). But Excell, Powerpoint and as-difficult, proper network configurations, system configurations, sync, privacy, security, update, registry, process and even power configurations! God forbid figuring out what "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object." means! At one point I think, I was beginning to understand that sentence...Scared myself, but not enough to check that box! Sorry...back to learning and yes, if you don't learn a thing or two trying to get windows to work properly then your obviously getting your 12 year old nephew to fix it like everyone else. At this moment it's a pleasure to accomplish something, even if it's just blowing off steam. My normal daily task consist of ; 2-3hrs reinstalling printer so I can print the "How to troubleshoot printer issue's after Windows update's", and then several more hours searching hopelessly for a way to delete the excess Cloud Drive file's, most of which are labeled "How to troubleshoot printer issue's after Windows update's", Please give me a Delete option if I right click ANYWHERE...PLEASE. How can such smart programming 12 year olds leave out or deliberately hide the basic commands. I can find 437 different ways to manipulate a file other than DELETE! Okay, I'll stop ranting, but I leave you with a " Smart" phone showing it's Scholarly skills. I was simply adding a recent call to my contacts, Phone ask's "New Contact or Update Existing". New Contact I input, then the Slept through Class SMART phone proceeds to pop up every contact with a matching letter, like I'm Updating!

URGENT ALERT RE HACKERS, VIRUSES, AND DANGEROUS THREATs
Today I received an urgent, very loud, alert from what appeared to be Microsoft, telling me the computer was in serious danger from hackers trying to gain access to my personal information. I was instructed not to turn my computer off or leave the page and was afraid to exit. I was also instructed to call the phone number provided immediately. I was not aware of any MS security threat scams and was quite worried. The technician I spoke to on the phone assured me he was a licensed MS technician and that since my computer had already been hacked, all my personal information was in jeopardy. This was a first for me and decided it would be best to trust his judgment. He accessed my computer and seemed to think 17 hackers were attempting to take over my computer and said my entire security system was locked, so I would not be able to proceed without removal of the threat and the addition of a network firewall and an IP protection. He took me to a web page for RIGHTPCEXPERTS.COM in Tampa, and gave the impression they are affiliated with Microsoft. Because I am age 69 he offered me a "discounted price" of 299.00 and I was left to believe it was imperative, as all my devices were in danger. I was then referred to a second agent who said he would be able to remedy the problems with my PC. HE REMOVED MY SYSTEM MECHANIC AND THEN installed an AD BLOCKER, CC CLEANER, ANTI-VIRUS HACKING. HE SEEMINGLY CLEANED MY COMPUTER AND THEN INSTALLED A NETWORK FIREWALL, AN IP NETWORK ACCESS PROTECTOR. After I PROVIDED my credit card number for the charge of 299.00 I was told there was an additional fee technical fee of $120, that would be paid in 12 installments of 9.99, for a total of 420.00. I was so reluctant but thought I had no other choice but to proceed. Like another gentleman who was concerned about the legitimacy of this company, I am left wondering if they are a scam. MY INVOICE READ AM PC SECURITY, NOT RIGHTPCEXPERTS OUT OF TAMPA AND NEXWAY HANDLED THE TRANSACTION.
