computer clean up
I would like some suggestions to clean up space on my computer and to allow it to run more efficiently. Runs slowly and lags. Need Help

File Explorer very slow!!
When I open file explorer it scans the C: drive. When I single click a file, it scans the C: drive. If I open or modify a file (change the name) it scans the C: drive. These scans vary from 5 seconds to 20 seconds, EVERY TIME. I searched Windows defrag with the start menu search button, it brings me to optimize drives. When I run the optimizer, it completes the process in 5 seconds... but i see ZERO change in the performance of my laptop. Secondly, video media I have that used to play smoothly, suddenly plays very choppy. If it does or does not have any relation to the above problem. Thank you, Nick

Lots of suspect files caught by MalwareBytes this mornng
Malwarebytes picked up lots of MS riskware this morning on three of our four computers. Most of it seems to be from Microsoft. I have them quarantined om two of the computers and I deleted them on the other one. So far all computers seems to be running OK. So, what are these? Why did MalwareBytes suspect them? I am a big Microsoft fan but enough with these feature updates and how about more focus on reliability and OS performance????

Use Scripts and Notepad to Make a Shutdown computer Shortcut
Some people have stated they wanted to be able to shutdown the computer from the desktop so I am going to tell you how; First you need to open Notebook and then click on File. Now click on new. You now have a blank page in front of you. What you're going to do next is write a simple piece of Script code to your new blank page. The Script is; @echo off shutdown -s -t 30 -c "shutting down within 30 sec" Once you have done this, you will then click on file again and then click on Save File As. A window will open up. What have to do is where it says Save as File Type, change it to all files. Now name the file Shutdown.bat. Once you have done this click next. You have just successfully created a Shortcut that you can place on your Desktop to Shutdown your computer. Simply go to where you saved the file and drag it to the Desktop. Here is the Scripts for Shutdown / Restart / Logoff; SHUTDOWN @echo off shutdown -s -t 30 -c "shutting down within 30 sec" RESTART @echo off shutdown -r -t 30 -c "Restart within 30 sec" LOGOFF @echo off shutdown -l -t 30 -c "Logoff within 30 sec" Just follow the above steps for each one. Happy Computing Everyone!

Do you leave your computer on overnight?
Hello One of my colleagues mentioned to me that she leaves her desktop computer on throughout the night. I realise that after 30 minutes or so (or whatever time you choose) the device goes to 'sleep'. I have never left my computer on all night - probably a habit of mine. So, I am left wondering whether contributors do leave their devices switched on throughout the night? 🤔. Views anyone?

Tips and tricks: Network drives and computers
Instead of mapping network drives, create desktop shortcuts to folders from another computers on the network. Then, double-click a shortcut to folder and you'll be able to access a folder from another computer on the network. To access another computer on the network, open the Network folder, and then drag a computer to the desktop. The shortcut is then created to the desktop. Double-clicking a shortcut to a network computer will open in a window. Sometimes, you'll be prompted for credentials from another user. You can send files or folders to a folder from your computer to another computer on the network. To do this: 1. Press WINDOWS LOGO + R. 2. Type "shell:sendto" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. 3. Access the folder from another computer on the network in the Network folder. 4. Hold down ALT and drag the folder to the SendTo window. A shortcut will be created. Now, whenever you right-click a file, point to Send to, and then click a folder that is from another computer on the network, another user will receive it.
