Cortana
Prior to 2004, I used a Windows-based computer. I was unhappy with Windows because of constant "blue screens of death", hackers planting viruses, etc...When I became a truck driver in 2004, I mainly used a mobile phone and started using Google products. I like their products and they all work seamlessly with each other. Now, I am a full-time Care-Provider for my mother and just purchased a new computer with Windows 10 Pro installed. I decided to give Microsoft apps a try once again because I do like their products. On my PC there are no problems, but on my Android phone, I just can't seem to get Cortana to work hands-free, and with certain apps. I do understand that there is a war between Microsoft, Apple, Google and any other companies that are out there, but, the customer (that would be you and I) should be able to use whatever Assistant we choose to work with any apps that we like and use. Case in point: the Google Assistant comes on automatically when I say "OK Google" (hands-free), and I can set a timer, ask about the weather, play my favorite music in the Google Play app, etc....no problem....Today I downloaded Cortana to work with all my apps and I cannot even get it to turn on without tapping the microphone button. I made it my default app, turned on all the permissions, etc...and I am discouraged with Microsoft again. I haven't given up yet, but I had to switch back to the Google Assistant just so I can do the things I need to do hands-free, which comes with a cost of not being able to use some of the Microsoft apps unless done manually. I like Microsoft's To-Do List, but Google Assistant will only open Google's Task app. It just defeats the whole purpose of downloading all of Microsoft's apps if I can't use everything seamlessly. I use Amazon Music now, and neither Assistant will open it. I would really like to use whatever Assistant I choose with the default apps that I select. Now, am I doing something wrong or does this sound about right?

Memory Use in low-memory devices
With each feature update (since 1607, at least), Windows 10 uses more memory (and disk space, but that's another day). It's getting to where 50-60% of RAM in a tablet/2-in-1 (2GB RAM, Win10 Home 32-bit) or older laptop (4GB RAM, Win10 Home 64-bit) is taken for a multitude of services and other tasks most of which just site there - seldom actually using CPU cycles after system startup. Yes, we should buy new computers with more RAM, on a never-ending cycle. Sorry, not going to happen in the real world where budgets are tight. What Windows needs is to be more cognizant of what the machine it's running on has available, and adjust its running footprint to match. A good rule of thumb might be: 50% of RAM when not running apps explicitly opened by the user is probably too much. If I don't have a lot of RAM, load those services only when they're needed and unload them afterward. Yes, that would slow down things when the services are needed and have to be reloaded, but the overuse of RAM is slowing things down anyway by pushing things into swap when any significant app is opened. Using swap is a real pain with spinning rust, but not great with eMMC or slower SSDs either. Look in Task Manager sometime and note how much is sitting there at the bottom of the process list nearly all the time, using no CPU once the system has stabilized following startup; those tasks and services should be candidates for killing during normal use. At minimum (assuming a reasonably-sized C: drive), those should be swapped out after a certain amount of "dead" time without waiting for something else to be loaded that forces the issue (and slows the load of a task that is actually needed). ??? Configuring User Account Control
You can change User Account Control settings. User Account Control prevents unauthorized changes to your computer unless you accept to do so. This is dependent on program installations or configuration changes. To change User Account Control settings: 1. Click Start, type "user account control" (without the quotation marks), and then click Change User Account Control Settings in a list of results. 2. Drag the slider up or down to what setting you want: - Always notify me when applications try to install software or make changes to my computer and I make changes to Windows settings - Notify me only when applications try to make changes to my computer (default) but don't notify me when I make changes to Windows settings - Notify me only when applications try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop) but don't notify me when I make changes to Windows settings - Never notify me when applications try to install software or make changes to my computer and I make changes to Windows settings 3. Click OK. Notes: - If you set User Account Control to Never Notify, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Using this setting is not recommended. - If you set User Account Control to Always Notify, you will always be notified when applications try to make changes to your computer or make changes to Windows settings. This is the highest security setting. - When a User Account Control dialog box pops up, your desktop will be dimmed until you provide confirmation.

OneNote/Outlook A Great Combination
I was paying my bills this morning and realized what a time saver the combination of Outlook 365 and OneNote 365 was to me, and I wondered why OneNote isn't often discussed in here. I love OneNote, and quite frankly I realized this morning that without it, I would be back to using my slide rule and a 3" pocket notebook. One of the feature I like most about OneNote is the ability to be able to send an email I received from Outlook directly to a page in OneNote. It's simple and a real time saver. Here's how it works, From Outlook 365, both Web and Desktop open an email, on the web version in the upper right corner click on the ellipsis and choose OneNote, that will open a new window with OneNote, and from there follow along to where you want to place the email. In Outlook 365 Desktop which is what I personally use, it's pretty straight forward as well. Open an email, then on the tool bar in the Move section you will see the OneNote Icon. Click on that and it will bring up your OneNote workbook and you can choose where you want the email to go. I take it one step further in that when I get an email confirming a purchase with a warranty I create and name a page, in a specific notebook, before I send the email to it, and that page will show up on the list when you click the OneNote icon.

How would you rate Windows Community if it was an app?
How would you rate Windows Community on a scale from 1 (very low) to 10 (extreme)? My rating is 9/10; inappropriate content should be removed immediately by spam filters; and should have grammar and spell checkers, because then if a post is not grammatical, it can be identified as spam, what I mean are posts like: ggggg or: weugrrrrrrrrfbEUW And for good posts, if there is a word misspelled, then the grammar checker can identify it and therefore it wouldn't be spam.

Improvement requests for sticky notes
1. Unfortunately I have no access to the sticky notes via the OneNote Android app (only on the tablet). 2. A labeling option (for follow-up) with a reminder and a link to ToDo (as with emails) would be great. 3. and a possibility to use the categories from Outlook would of course also be very desirable.

Collections
Noticed this morning that the collections icon was missing from Edge. Anyone else find that too?

Pictures on my Windows 10 laptop
I am a little tec challanged. Sense my Windows 10 updated last week, nearly all my pictures are all in groups of files. Before, they were shown in individual pictures. I have no idea what is in each file unless I open the file. I don't know how to change them back to infividual pictures. Strange that it seems that the older photos are in files and the recent ones are individual. I haven't taken any and downloaded any sense so I'm not sure where any that I take will go. As I said, I'm a little tec challanged and don't always understand the language.
