Meet Analy Otero Diaz and Matt Cooley, Windows engineers who help make Windows Maps do the amazing things it does.

Microsoft Maps
I've always loved Microsoft's Mapping software Streets and Trips. Infact I still use Streets and Trips 2011 and have it loaded on my laptop. Now that that is said, would someone please tell me what is going on with Maps? MSFT keeps making improvements to it, but I can't use it on my (Android) phone. The closest I can come to it is HERE. Yea I know that is the early, early version on Map. Why Maps ove HERE or Google you ask. Well it's really rather simple. With HERE and with Maps, I can load up the maps that I need, and take off. For example; I want to drive from Phoenix th Miami. I load up the state maps that pertain to that area, and away I go. But! I can continue using them off line, which means turn by turn and such things as lane assist. It is my understanding that with Google maps I need to load in an area and bring it up when I'm in that area? What I have just described, applies both to HERE, and Maps, but with on esception, and that is with Maps I can save a destination as a favorite OFF LINE, and when I bring my Maps up, the saved favorite is there. In HERE that isn't so. If I save a destination on my phone, and I am off line, I need to set the phone to On Line in order for that favorite to save. Question? What are Microsoft's plans for Maps? Are they going to bring it to Android? What is the road map

Bing Maps!
It's hard to take Bing Maps seriously now. I live in Hong Kong and for some reason the Ariel Map View will show me located inside the ocean, but when i turn on Road View, buildings and roads get duplicated. I addressed this issue for months and there was no improvement. There is even a private housing development area close to where I live that has been completed and running for the past 2 years but Bing Maps shows it as dust (AKA under construction). Unless Microsoft only focuses customers based in the US and / or UK, (I cannot comment much on that) but that is poor stuff from them. Products release here much later compared to other markets while their competitors make sure every customer in the world gets first hands-on. So as my first sentence. "It's hard to take Bing Maps seriously".

Microsoft Maps Location
Anyone know if Maps or Microsoft's location services were changed recently? I moved from one side of the country to the other and built a new computer. It showed my location as my previous address much to my dismay. I turned off all location services and set my time and weather manually as well as clearing any incorrect locations from my account. We then went back to visit for a month, and after returning, I tried turning location back on and it correctly showed my new address. Starting at the beginning of this week, my location had drifted by a couple houses, and today it went back to my old address on the other side of the country, thus making my weather and time settings wrong as well. I'm hoping this isn't going to require me to take another trip just to get it to work correctly again.

Windows Maps (Redux) Thank You Microsoft and Tom Tom
For those of you that have been on here for a while you've seen my rants about Microsoft not updating Microsoft Maps, and when they teamed up with Tom Tom nothing seemed to change either. Well, I'm pleased to say that that has changed. I ran a store update this morning, and I noticed that there was an update for Windows Maps. Sure as you know what, there it was, the update to the South Mountain Freeway Extension was finally there. It's still sad though that Google maps showed it within a few days, yes, Days, of it opening, which was almost a year ago. Anyway Thank You Microsoft and Tom Tom for updating a severely out of date map.

Windows Maps - Now with Tom-Tom? - How's that working out ?
I've ranted about the problems with Microsoft Maps, till I'm just about blue in the face. Yes, I still use it on my laptop, and Yes I've sent the notations to Microsoft on numerous occasions. I swear that unless I can come back after the switch to Tom-Tom, and praise them for a job well done, this will be my last Maps post. Yesterday 6/1 in a post on MS Power Users they noted that Microsoft was switching map data providers, from HERE, to Tom-Tom. I gave up using HERE on my Android phone, for several reasons, but the biggest was that the maps here in the desert S.W. were out of date. Google had the Loop 202 and the Ed Pastor Freeway, that has been open since December of 201 updated within a week of its completion. As of this morning it still isn't updated on either the HERE WE GO website, or Microsoft maps. https://mspoweruser.com/microsoft-bing-maps-switching-tomtom/ I really can't believe that Microsoft is going to use this on Azure? Thanks for letting rant! Stay Safe out there!

Network Map...? Why is this gone?
Seriously Microsoft. Why would you remove the network map feature from Windows? This was a really stupid move. Now people have to resort to 3rd party software when it could have been a basic baked in feature... like it has been in the past.

Character map extended characters
Is there a way to use the Unicode characters (key combinations like Alt + ****) for the "U+****" codes without having to open the "Character Map" and searching for and copying the characters?

Can't map a network drive
A user can see the network and the network will let him map a drive on every PC in the joint except his own. I am not sure what he has done (which he is not telling me) that is preventing the drive map. I have tried to unlock his user and password in Active Directory (2008-R2) I even gave him a different log on in ADUC, no go. We can't log in with any FQDN or username. Print and sharing is turned on.....I am at a loss.
