Ever feel like MicroSoft isn't being completely honest ?
It is my belief that transparency and nomenclature are major issues that MicroSoft (r) refuses to or is unable to (probably little of both) address . . . It is my belief that software (and hardware) should be both reliable and elegant . . . LIKE A WALL SWITCH ! ! !

Backing up and restoring the registry
WARNING: Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE) is a very powerful tool that lets you make changes to the registry. However, incorrectly using Registry Editor can cause serious, system-wide problems that include hard disk corruption, general instability, or being unable to use your computer. It may be necessary for you to reinstall your operating system to correct the problems. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Also, Microsoft does not support changes made to the registry. Use this tool at your own risk. Backing up and restoring your registry can be done by: - Exporting to the registry file for backup - Importing to Registry Editor for restoration - Creating a restore point for backup / using System Restore for restoration - Creating a system image for backup / using System Image for restoration To back up / restore your registry: 1. Press WINDOWS LOGO + R, type "regedit" and press ENTER. 2. Do the following: - If you want to back up one of the registry keys, navigate to any, click Export on the File menu, type the name, and then press ENTER. - To restore the registry, click Import on the File menu, find the file that ends with .REG, and then double-click it. PROFESSIONAL TIPS: Instead of importing to or exporting from Registry Editor, it's strongly recommended to either create a restore point or create a system image. That way, you can use System Restore or System Image Recovery in case changes to the registry can cause your computer a problem.

I had a work PC configured, then Microsoft forced an update
Hi, I would like to ask a Microsoft Manager, (any department will do), how would you feel after you find that your working PC is not working anymore, while you have a customer in front of you waiting to start a recording session he paid for. I have a DAW, configured with 3 monitor and one professional Dante audio interface. I run a recording studio. My work is to record musician sessions in a dynamic way, following and inspiring artists to focus on creativity and music, not on technology. Today I had to cancel the session, a band that arrived from abroad, because the last Windows update left my system in a non operative status. I am working hard to recover the technical situation, but I think I have lost a customer. They asked me: why you do not use MAC? I decided to use Windows because I was curious to see if the belief that Mac OS is better for professional recording studio was correct. I gave Microsoft credit. But, this is the third time I have this problem. It is not acceptable. I will update (should I say upgrade) the systems to Mac, but as a short term solution I have to reconfigure the DAW. Do you know what I have to do to reconfigure my system and how long it will take me? I will tell you. Read the following log. 1. AMD Radeon HD 7770 Ghz Edition - driver gone - I had to reinstall - 40 minutes 2. wrong resolution on display n.2 (LG ultrawide HDMI) - 10 min. 3. three desktop - on the display n. 1 I have icons of the previous n. 2 / on display 2 there is nothing / on disp. 3 a mess - 20 min. 4. The color management is gone! I had to run Spider5Express on 3 monitors to recalibrate the colour - 1 hour and 30 minutes 5. Audio: reconfiguration I will continue later... but... Gentleman, my feeling now is that my DAW is not really mine! Microsoft have the control on my belonging. I pay for something that I have to disconnect physically from Internet otherwise I can not avoid updates? This is unacceptable and ridiculous.

Disappointed = still blocked for Window 10 2004 May update
Dperessed that only 1 of 5 devices I own has updated to Windows 10 2004. Frustrating that I stil can't even find out what the block reason is. Pathetic that on the conexant sounds cards (my best guess for my thinkpad blocks) that billion dollar corporations (Microsoft and Synaptics [who bought connexant] can't fix a sound driver in more than 2 months (it's 2 months since the block - presumably the problem was already known for the block). Even worse, they can't be bothered to to provide any kind of news since the original text posted onMay 27 - you press the "LearnMore" button on Windows Update and learn nothing at the next to useless dashboard. "Investigating" for 2 months is just sad. I have used Windows for a while - I was present at the UK launch and have never been so disappointed. Ironically, on one ofmy devices I never even use the Conext sound - with proper infomration (liek aconfirmation that this is my blokc) I might risk anupdate and manual disbale - I tried that to see if the block woudlclear on automatic update it didnt workbut with no information provided on the blockI have noidea if it shoudl have worked. [Incindetally, which idiot decided to switch off the WIndows spell check in ths dialog? Here I am in edge, with MS editor running and... As it happens my spelling is pretty good - but my typing is not (motor control) so I rely on underlines to spot the typos.]

Happy about the Surface Duo, unhappy about Android system.
The idea of the Surface Duo is great, The idea of it running Android sucks. I choose to avoid Android/Google/Gmail, et al, when and where ever possible. I don't trust Google at all, and wish to cut ties to them in every way possible. I have chosen to trust Microsoft, this trust does NOT extend to Google. Within the Android operating system(s) I am REQUIRED to have (and use) a Gmail account. Even to download Microsoft apps (Launcher, Edge, Bing, Authenticator). These actions open all access to any of my information, location(s), search histories and any other data that may choose to mine to Google over-lords. I don't trust Google and hoped to use Microsoft as a buffer to their potential evils. The costs, closed system policies, and the guilt by association feelings have a;ways kept my from Apple products. I could never justify Apple when Steve Jobs was alive. Will it be my only choice be to assimilate to the Apple borg, as now guided by Tim Cook? I have never believed that Apple products were worth the costs, fees, and stigma that the brand represents in my mind. I am pleading with Microsoft, to find a better way. As much as I like the concept of the Surface Duo, the Android operating system forces us all toward Google. Who wants that? Please reconsider. What options might I consider, to keep me from accepting all of Google's Crapware and data-mining menace? I ask these things seriously, and don't know what to do.
