I want to let you know what happened because it’s the first time in all my 30+ years IT life. I used to have two volumes/partitions, C: for Windows OS and E: for my data. Thursday evening I started Windows Update (only for last November 2019 cumulative update, I update very often) and shut down when finished. On Friday morning when I booted up the system I saw the Windows nice landscape photo but when I tried to login the password box was not shown, no way to login. I tried ALL possible paths (safe mode, cmd, etc.). You know what I found? Using diskpart from cmd I found a single volume/partition that was the merge of my C: and my E: data !!! dir command was showing all my C and E directories and files together in one single volume/partintion! Windows was corrupted somehow, no gpt fix, efi rebuild was successful. My SD with my Windows 10 File History was not accessible (and useless since the OS itself was corrupted). All my data were there, there was no encryption so, without any login, I saved all my data on a usb hdd with robocopy (this is very bad on a security perspective, It’s enough to have a usb stick and some time with a pc available, e.g. lunch break, and you can stole the whole data from it, easy, no password, no hack. Either Bitlocker or, even better, a 3rd parties encryption after UEFI layer is recommended. But this time I was happy I did't have bitlocker). The only solution to bring back to work the laptop was to boot from the Recovery Drive (lucky I did and had) and then restore a full image (lucky I did and had) with the old Windows 7 Backup Tool and finally robocopy back all my data (then upgrade again but not to the latest cumulative, better to wait a bit, a fix might come, then backup again). One additional note, since during the restore process I chose not to format all partitions from scratch, now I have one single partition C: with both OS and Data, I’m leaving Windows decision be the final one on how my volumes have to be on my laptop 😊

Should I post the Microsoft Edge Dev change log every week?
Share your opinion! In the meantime, here's today's one: Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 89.0.723.0 to the Dev channel. As you can see, this is our first build for version 89, and here’s everything exciting it’s got: Added features: Added the ability to run an on-demand scan for leaked passwords from the Passwords Settings page. Added a website permission to Cookies and Site Data for pre-loading websites. Added an option to have downloaded PDFs open in the default PDF reader instead of Edge. Added keyboard shortcut information to the Share, Copy, and Paste Settings page. Enabled work from Chromium to reduce battery usage by background tabs. Enabled support for management policies from Chromium for Printing Allowed Background Graphics Modes and Printing Background Graphics Default. Improved reliability: Fixed an issue where Edge doesn’t start and instead gives an error that the “side by side configuration is invalid”. Fixed a crash on launch on Linux. Fixed a crash on shutdown when the browser is closed quickly after creating a new tab. Fixed a crash during shutdown. Fixed a crash when using vertical tabs. Fixed an issue where re-opening an IE mode tab that was previously closed sometimes crashes the browser. Changed behavior: Fixed an issue where there’s an invisible or un-selectable tab in the tab strip. Fixed an issue where the … menu’s icon direction is vertical instead of horizontal. Fixed an issue where middle-clicking on a folder in the Favorites menu doesn’t open all its content in new tabs. Fixed an issue where clicking on the Favorites menu or History menu button when the menu is open doesn’t close the menu. Fixed an issue where certain website permissions in Settings are blank. Fixed an issue where the button in Settings to manage printers doesn’t work. Fixed an issue where autofill sometimes suggests older or out-of-date passwords for websites. unusual problems with Windows 2004
Hey all, I had a couple of unusual problems when I updated my 2017 Surface Pro i5 to Windows 2004. I have three external WD passport drives (2.5 inch) connected via a USB hub on the surface dock, and after the update the drives would produce a loud clicking sound about every ten to fifteen minutes. I think it has to do with a power saving mode but changing those settings or turning them off with WD utilities did nothing to prevent the issue. They also seemed to never actually go to sleep with the lights blinking 3 times every 10 seconds or so. I have formatted the drives in exFAT. When I went back to Windows 1909, the problem stopped. Could this be something to do with the new windows search or indexing features? Also, and its small, but the onscreen keyboard got smaller when used in full QWERTY mode. It now has a border around the left and right edge of my screen and shrunk the keyboard to fit. It's not a big deal when using the surface in landscape mode, but it definitely is more difficult to use when in portrait mode. Thanks.
Update KB4571756 problems
the 9th september i shut down with an update and the 10th the PC didn't start. I had to use an external startup to install a backup from the 28th august operating system. So it was running again it starts with automatic updates. I restarted several times to update but after multiple times i figured out the last update KB4571756 will not install but keeps returning each time in the update menu. Don't know where to report this by Microsoft. Maybe more users have the same issue ?
