Won't update
A couple weeks ago my laptop stopped downloading/installing most Microsoft updates. And when I looked at update history everything before 29 April 2021 was gone. I have updates successfully installed under "Quality Updates, KB5003169 ( 5/11/2021) and KB4023057 (04/29/2021), and under "Other Updates" is KB8090830 (5/11/2021). Other updates are listed as Failed to Install. When I pull up the Windows Update page there is an alert saying "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes" and will not update/download anything. I don't know if any of this info helps you. Please be kind, I'm an old lady on social security. LOL. Preventing Shut Down From the Sign-in Screen
In order to prevent users from using the sign-in screen to shut down whether users are signed in or not, you can use Local Security Policy or the REG command. Here's how: Method 1: Local Security Policy NOTE: This method only applies to Windows 10 Pro. 1. Press WINDOWS LOGO + R. 2. Type "secpol.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. 3. Double-click Local Policies. 4. Click Security Options. 5. Scroll down until you see Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having to log on and double-click it. 6. Click Disabled and click OK. Method 2: The REG command WARNING: Incorrectly using the registry editing tool can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 10 to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the incorrect use of the registry editing tool can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk. 1. Press WINDOWS LOGO + R. 2. Type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER. 3. Provide confirmation or type in the password if you see the User Account Control dialog box. 4. Type REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v shutdownwithoutlogon /t REG_DWORD /d 1 and press ENTER. 5. Type EXIT and then press ENTER. Now, whenever you press WINDOWS LOGO + L or you're not signed in yet, the Power icon that normally appears at the bottom-right corner of the screen will not be seen.

Where do I fix connection sharing for programs?
In my attempts to find a problem I have in the desktop version of Quickbooks, I ran the database manager device and it says "Windows firewall: connection sharing not allowed" and "Network Diagnostics:" Failed, Resolve and retry" It appears I cannot locate anything to change in Window settings under the firewall, diagnostics etc. Does anyone know what this is or where I can locate it in my Windows 10 PC? I had no issues sharing the network for Quickbooks then all of the sudden I can not be on the network program at the same time as another user. I have 2 licenses for QB's so I am lost.

Camera problem
I'm just sharing my experience. Hoping your suggestion to correct or improve the steps based on your experience, so I can learn much from this community for the step / tips/ trick that I don't know. Usually this happened on built-in camera. I will take the following steps and stop the next steps if problem has solved: 1) Sign out from current account -> restart -> sign in with administrator account. 2) Update BIOS, then camera driver, then camera firmware if suggested and/or available from laptop manufacturer. 3) Update Win 10 to the latest version including all pending updates -> restart computer. 4) Troubleshoot Windows Store Apps. Find it by typing "troubleshoot" in windows search. 5) Check the camera privacy setting, whether it's blocked. Find it by typing "privacy settings" in search. 6) Reset Camera app. Find it by typing "apps & features" in search -> Advanced options -> Reset. 7) Check camera device compatibility in Device Manager -> right-click camera device -> Property -> Driver -> click Driver Details. If there is stream.sys in the list, then I will suggest my client to replace the camera device with a new one or use external camera. If not, it might be compatible with win 10. 8) Edit windows registry. Sometime can fix the problem. WARNING : please readers DO NOT do this if not familiar. Do it with your own risk. 8.a. Backup and save current registry setting. 8.b. Edit registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> WOW6432Node -> Microsoft -> Windows Media Foundation. On the right pane of the Registry Editor of Windows Media Foundation, create the new DWORD (32-bit) Value -> enter EnableFrameServerMode (without space) as the title for the new DWORD -> double-click EnableFrameServerMode -> Input 0 (zero) for Value data -> OK -> Restart. If any things is missing or there is any other tips that I don't know, please let me know.

Memory Use in low-memory devices
With each feature update (since 1607, at least), Windows 10 uses more memory (and disk space, but that's another day). It's getting to where 50-60% of RAM in a tablet/2-in-1 (2GB RAM, Win10 Home 32-bit) or older laptop (4GB RAM, Win10 Home 64-bit) is taken for a multitude of services and other tasks most of which just site there - seldom actually using CPU cycles after system startup. Yes, we should buy new computers with more RAM, on a never-ending cycle. Sorry, not going to happen in the real world where budgets are tight. What Windows needs is to be more cognizant of what the machine it's running on has available, and adjust its running footprint to match. A good rule of thumb might be: 50% of RAM when not running apps explicitly opened by the user is probably too much. If I don't have a lot of RAM, load those services only when they're needed and unload them afterward. Yes, that would slow down things when the services are needed and have to be reloaded, but the overuse of RAM is slowing things down anyway by pushing things into swap when any significant app is opened. Using swap is a real pain with spinning rust, but not great with eMMC or slower SSDs either. Look in Task Manager sometime and note how much is sitting there at the bottom of the process list nearly all the time, using no CPU once the system has stabilized following startup; those tasks and services should be candidates for killing during normal use. At minimum (assuming a reasonably-sized C: drive), those should be swapped out after a certain amount of "dead" time without waiting for something else to be loaded that forces the issue (and slows the load of a task that is actually needed). ??? Headphones not recognized
Was working fine. Then I put laptop to sleep and an hour later when I opened it again, the sound only comes out of the speakers. Things I've tried so far:- 1] Blow dust from the jack 2] Reinstall/update all audio drivers 3] Headphones confirmed working with other devices 4] Update windows 5] Checked that Windows Audio service is running 6] Troubleshooter did not identify the issue 7] Uninstall Realtek drivers(temporarily) 8] Am sure haven't spilled water in it When I opened sound settings in control panel, my headphones are not listed in there, disabled or not. Only the speakers show up under the Playback tab(even after unhiding the disabled devices). No amount of Check For Updates gave me any new drivers; apparently they are up-to-date.
